Working in The Province of South India
The Church of South India Women's Fellowship was formed in 1948,was formally affiliated to Mothers' Union in 2003 and consists of 22 dioceses.
The motto of the Women's Fellowship in South India is 'Arise and Shine'. It is helping families face specific problems caused by the dowry tradition, divorce, child abuse and suicide. They have initiated counselling programmes, both for teenagers and pre-marriage, throughout the region.
The WF is helping to combat the huge illiteracy problem that prevails by holding awareness meetings and trials to assess and respond to this need, establishing many pre-primary schools in under-developed areas which serve a mixed community that embraces many faiths and religions.
The HIV/AIDS awareness programme offers much needed support for those affected with the disease whilst continuing to educate those around them.
A perennial problem is that of drought, so the WF has initiated a programme to enable people to learn how to build water pits so that the rainwater may be stored during the rainy season.
