Working in The Province of Korea

Mothers' Union was founded in Korea in 1925. The Province was established in 1993 with three dioceses; Pusan, Seoul and Taejon:

Pusan is located in a predominantly Buddhist area in the Korean peninsula. There is vigorous activity amongst the membership who enjoy good fellowship, holding monthly prayer meetings, choir groups and Bible recital contests! Their key aim is to convey a missionary message for a new church through on-street evangelism. They hold staff training, conferences and educational programmes for voluntary hospice workers and parish-based evangelists. The remoteness of many areas and the distances between regions can be a problem.

Members of Seoul diocese provide training days and serve the local community through their support of elder's homes, orphanages and helping prisoners without relatives. Seoul cathedral is the spiritual centre for Korean Christianity and for all the Anglican church activities in the country.

Taejon diocese is located in the central area of South Korea. Although summers are busy for Mothers' Union members of this area helping out in the paddy fields, they still maintain their meetings and some training events. At quieter times, the diocese is busy holding retreats, services, and training sessions. Fundraising enables the local Mothers' Union to support theological students and foreign workers living in the country, allowing the ministry of the Korean Mothers' Union to comfort and support families in their diocese.

Anglican church of Korea runs a programme called the Food Bank throughout Korea, reaching out to the homeless and poor in their communities. This programme supports a growing number of young people who are unemployed and have little support. Mothers' Union members support this programme by supplying much of the food, and often go out into the streets themselves helping the project to feed those that are homeless.
