Ethiopia
Mothers' Union in Ethiopia is working towards encouraging spiritual strength and practical skills to help build successful and peaceful communities. working alongside the Anglican church the Mothers' Union membership has grown in just five years from 100 members to over 700. Members are involved in supporting clergy, and meeting together regularly to pray for and discuss family life.
Most of the Anglican communities are in the south west of Ethiopia along the Sudanese border. In the many refugee camps there, members of Mothers' Union who have fled in to Ethiopia from neighbouring countries, particularly Sudan, have formed their own Mothers' Union groups. As a predominantly Christian country, Ethiopia is well placed to offer support to neighbouring Sudanese Christians.
Pastoral support, peace and reconciliation work, and improving standard of living with various income-generation projects are just part of Mothers' Union work here.
