England & Isle of Man

England

Mothers' Union in England works through two distinct administrative areas known as provinces: the Province of Canterbury, covering southern England and Europe, and tthe Province of York, which covers districts in the north and the Isle of Man.

Like the Church of England, the Mothers' Union works within each province in dioceses. Within each diocese members not only keenly support the worldwide work of Mothers' Union through their prayer and giving, but are involved in supporting local programmes which provide help and support to people of their own local communities.

The Province of Canterbury

Within Canterbury Province there are 29 dioceses, from Truro in the far south west, to Lincoln and Leicester in the northern most dioceses of the province. The province is the largest in the British Isles, incorporating about half of Britain's Mothers' Union membership.

The Province of York

The 14 dioceses of the Province of York cover the northern-most counties of England.

Together, the forty-three diocese have an extensive, diverse range of projects which meet the needs of local families. Within prisons Mothers' Union members assist in visitor centres - helping families who have often travelled hundreds of miles with small children, as they enter what can seem like a very alien enviornment. Prison-based membership groups are established, giving a chance for fellowship, and craft opportunities which give the prisoners a chance to talk to someone without prejudice. Relationship education training provides helpful routes by which prisoners can maintain, or even establish, positive ways to remain part of their family.

The Get Away From It All Holidays (AFIA), provide breaks, from a day-trip to a week-long holiday, for families that otherwises would not have a chance to have that special time together.

Hosptial outreach, parenting training, marriage preparation, marriage support, parent and toddler groups and making the tea - whatever it takes to support families towards good relationships - there you'll find Mothers' Union members.
