11/05/2010 Coalition Government agree to end Child Detention.
Mothers Union, members of the Sanctuary Pledge coalition formed by CitizensUK, are delighted that the Conservative/Liberal Democrat coalition government have committed to ending the detention of children for the purpose of immigration control. This is a huge victory for Citizens for Sanctuary teams, including Mothers Union members, who have been campaigning for an end to child detention. For more information visit sanctuarypledge.com
21/1/2010 Mothers' Union today welcomed the Governments Green paper on families -which gives support to new fathers, and promises action on rights of access to grandparents. However the paper worryingly only talks about families with children, and does not address issues of need from parents of adult children with special needs, or families acting as carers for relatives of any age. Mothers' Union would also like to see fathers encouraged in their role through the whole of their child's childhood. Full release to follow.

1/10/2009 Mothers' Union appeals for food aid assistance in East Africa Famine is facing 23 million people across East Africa. Hundreds of thousands of people are turning to Mothers' Union for food aid; crops have failed, food prices are sky high, and people are eating leaves and roots in an effort to stay alive. 9/7/2009 Mothers' Union welcomes increased funding faith-based development Mothers' Union today welcomed the Government's continued commitment to meeting the challenges set by the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in eliminating global poverty by 2015. In the white paper from the Department for International Development (DfId), Building our Common Future, Douglas Alexander reiterated that UK aid continues to be targeted at poverty reduction.
