Mothering Sunday

Mothering Sunday

Why the MU Cares for Carers

This Mothering Sunday we want to thank all of those people involved in caring in our communities. Mums are not the only people who work tirelessly to care for others, so we want to celebrate and thank all those who care. All MU objectives talk about caring; we all know someone who has cared for us, and we know what a difference it makes to our lives. So how can we say thank you?

We wanted to give you some ideas on how you can thank carers in your community at or around the time of Mothering Sunday. Whether they are mums, dads, step-parents, foster carers, people who care for relatives or others the MU want them to know they are appreciated!

Join with MU members all around the world as they show care for those who care for others:

1) In your branch or local area, identify a group of people who care for others that you would like to thank
2) Pick one of the event ideas (or your own idea) on the next pages to run in your church, house or area

Download our special Mothering Sunday booklet to help you with your event.

Policy Ideas for Mothering Sunday

Many mothers who work in retail will not spend this year's Mothering Sunday with their children.  Currently, large shops can open for six hours between 10am and 6pm, and small shops can open whenever they wish.  However, the Government is considering deregulating Sunday trading completely, and is asking for views on how this.  Perhaps your Motherig Sunday event could involve gathering evidence and stories for the Government about how this could affect families?
