Fair Enough?
Even after the MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY campaign has ended, trade justice, the need for aid, and debt relief are still present.
Pressure from campaigners has meant that the UK government now claims to be working hard to influence the World Bank and IMF to allow poor countries to make their own decisions.
UK parliament also approved the new International Development Act. The International Development Secretary must now report annually to Parliament on the progress made by the UK to support the Millennium Development Goals to reduce poverty.
Together, we have raised peoples awareness of the reality and seriousness of poverty.
But
Trade rules still deny poor countries $700 billion every year Nearly half the worlds population still live on less than $2 a day The three richest people in the world still control more wealth than all 600 million people in the worlds poorest countries put together
Does that sound fair to you?
We still need to do more. As well as campaigning, we can make changes in our lifestyles the things we do and buy everyday to make the world fairer.
The MU is releasing Fair Enough? a practical guide to help you to make the right changes.
Fair Enough? provides information to help you to engage in the factors behind poverty and injustice unfair trade and climate change; it provides practical tips showing exactly how easy it is to make positive changes at home and in the shops; and it provides worship and prayer resources to help you to reflect on the issues in light of your faith.
We have a lot of power as consumers. Fair Enough? will help you to use that power to bring justice.
